History of Unicompartmental Prostheses

The history of unicompartmental prostheses does not begin in the twentieth century, it begins at the end of the eighteenth century, we will see that the historical references of surgical techniques sometimes overlap. To understand the birth of the concept of unicompartmental prostheses, we will place this technique in the past of surgery. One may wonder about the choice I made to place the birth of the unicompartmental prosthesis in the world of arthroplasty resections, bone osteotomies, and tissue and synthetic interpositions. Nevertheless, this choice seemed logical to me, because all these surgical techniques are carried by the same philosophy, the conservation of movement being as little iatrogenic as possible. Reading the original texts made it possible to correct errors or mistakes that persisted from text to text over time.
