Introduction

This introductory chapter offers three things. First is an assessment of the stasis in the historical discourse about the history of Christianity in Africa that prompted the volume. Second, the chapter provides some historical context to the debate among scholars about how the story of Christianity in Africa should be narrativized. Third, the chapter suggests some pathways forward in future research on the history of Christianity in Africa.
