This chapter discusses the principle and mechanism that is involved in the operation of FO membraneForward osmosis membrane. The chapter also covers the various fabrication methods of FO membranes, which include phase inversion, interfacial polymerizationInterfacial polymerization, stretching, and track-etchingTrack-etching. Some major challenging issues associated with FO membranes are also identified in this chapter. Other than that, the advancement in nanofiber-basedNanofiber-based membrane FO membrane fabrication methods with highlights on electrospun FO membranesForward osmosis membrane is also discussed in detail. Last but not least, the chapter concludes by highlighting the most recent studies on the application and efficacy of FO membrane in the desalinationDesalination field.
