Prospect

The risk factors for obesity have been discussed and the approaches taken to date have been considered. It has been concluded that the incidence of obesity will increase if novel and successful approaches are not developed. Whether this occurs depends on three groups: the food industry, politicians and the customer. It is suggested that the first two groups are unlikely to initiate change as it is difficult, and may not be seen to be in their interest. The way that the general public can cause obesity to be placed higher on the poliical agenda is therefore discussed.
