Pre-editing

  • Adrian Wallwork

摘要

This chapter discusses essential strategies for making text in your own language English-ready. Such pre-editing entails dividing lengthy sentences into shorter, more digestible ones. Other pre-edits include eliminating redundancy, ensuring that content remains concise, avoiding synonyms for keywords, avoiding gender-specific pronouns, replacing pronouns to prevent ambiguity, using specific and active language, and replacing vague terms. The chapter highlights the benefits of using active sentences, which minimize mistranslations and enhance comprehension. These strategies collectively facilitate the process of preparing text for English-speaking audiences.
