The Assessment of the Seismic Answer of Structures with Viscous Fluid Dissipators Included in the Construction and Functionally

The global tendency is to increase the safety level for new constructions, as well as to consolidate the existing buildings. Once the demand grows, it is also necessary to tackle solutions able to comply with this desire. The dissipation of energy induced by earthquakes to frame structures can be obtained through various methods. The herewith article analyses the ability of viscous fluid devices to fight against the effects of seismic actions, by increasing the fraction of critical damping. Adopting dampers can be an alternative to taking over structural damage, and can be seen as an alternate way to absorb the energy induced by the earthquake. The assessment of the seismic answer to the structures equipped with viscous dampers was made through reference to the seismic hazard and the specificity of location conditions in Romania.
