An Analysis of the Vibrations Transmitted to the Crew of a Ferry on the Danube

There are areas over rivers without bridges, in which case the crossing from one bank to the other is done by ferry. This paper, examines the main quantities that characterize the whole body vibrations transmitted to the navigating personnel on a ferry on the Danube. The quantities used were those indicated by Directive 2002/44/EC of the European Parliament on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (vibration). The Whole Body Vibrations (WBV), under different conditions, were measured on the x, y and z axes. WBV were measured by means of the 01 dB NetdB multichannel system, the SEAT-pad triaxial accelerometer, and the Piezotronics 356A16 PCB triaxial accelerometer. Data analysis was carried out with dBFA Suite—an acquisition and post-processing data software. The data collected during the experiments was processed, using the calculations provided by ISO 2631-1:1997 and 2631-5:2018. Parameters indicated by ISO 2631-1 include: 1. Mean square acceleration (Aw) calculated at floor level; 2. Partial exposure, which is vibration exposure (in m/s2 A(8)) for each process and calculated based on the vibration size and the duration of exposure; 3. Vibration Dose Value (VDV). This quantity is more sensitive to impulse vibrations, reflecting the total vibration more accurately, than a mere mediation; 4. The length of time after which the exposure value triggering the action (TEAV) is reached and 5. The exposure limit value (TELV). All the values characteristic of the vibrations transmitted to the navigating personnel are far exceeded.
