Damage Detection on Historical Structure Using Image Processing

This paper focuses on the “Revitalizing historical structures: Using image processing for accurate damage detection and assessment.” Our objective is to detect cracks in the structure and analyze the structural behavior of the Devanahalli Fort, a historical fort located in Devanahalli Town in Karnataka, India. To achieve this, we are using canny edge detection and crack detection in MATLAB to highlight the cracks, and to analyze the structural behavior, we are performing modal analysis (MA) in ANSYS. By analyzing the results, we were able to identify the cracks present in the structure, which we highlighted using red contours. Additionally, we were able to estimate the magnitude of deformation, providing us with an approximate understanding of the extent of the structural damage. The heavy rainfall in 2021 caused significant damage to the fort, making it imperative to constantly monitor the structure to prevent any potential further collapses, particularly in areas that are critical to the fort’s stability.
