Navigating Identity Formation Amidst Ongoing Conflict: Palestinian Youth and Marcia’s Identity Framework

Palestinian youth has no clear identity for a number of reasons that relate to conflict as the theoretical framework of this research is the identity framework by Marcia. Through this conflict, the psychological health particular to the Palestinian youth is revealed to stress the corresponding choice and commitment to various dimensions in their identity. In as much as the study is situated within conflict resolution and peace studies, it also emphasizes the need of understanding the experiences of Palestinian youth in order to come up with proper strategies in conflict resolution and peacemaking. It was seen that Palestinian youth experience considerable issues concerning their identity because of the socio-political situation of occupation, forced displacement, and socio-economic vulnerability. Furthermore, this study contributes to the understanding of family, community, education, and resilience and coping strategies in young people of Palestine. The final discussion provided practical recommendations for policymakers, educators, and practitioners in order that youth in Palestine may effectively cope with conflict and develop positive identity.
