Social Innovation of Awra Amba Utopian Co-immunity

摘要

The purpose of the current study is to formulate lessons and success factors from the indigenous social innovation of Awra Amba community. The success story is briefly articulated using a fuzzy logic qualitative research approach and key informant interviews employing snow bowling sampling technique. Secondary sources of information, particularly blogs, local and international digital media, and documentary films are extensively used. The research shows that ensuring a lasting peace, alleviation of food poverty, promotion of egalitarian economy, strict gender equality, impartial recognition of the human race, complete avoidance of serious crimes, community-led-industrialization, successful natural resource conservation, community-led social protection for the elderly, moral education for children, and human-centred inclusive development in general have been achieved in 30 years’ endeavours of the community. Indigenous utopian social reengineering knowledge and charismatic leadership are among the key success factors. Therefore, the merit of this paper is that it provides a glimpse of a rare success story if not a “miracle” that may inspire community-led peacekeeping and inclusive development endeavours in Africa and elsewhere for that matter.
