China's Policy Regarding Libya's Inclusion in the Belt and Road Initiative: Sights Set on the Future?

Libya and China have had diplomatic relations since 1978 when Libya recognized China as one of the countries with which it wished to establish connections. Since then, relations between the two countries have been rather friendly and based on mutual economic and strategic interests. Due to the political and military crisis in Libya in recent years, China has become more active in the region, seeking to mediate between the various parties and increasing its economic presence there.
