摘要

This study sheds light on the role of economic instruments in pushing countries into compliance with the provisions of international agreements for the protection of the environment. Such instruments include the use of trade policy instruments, applying environmental fees, approving loans for environmentally friendly projects, emission trading, and the “polluter pays” principle. The study addresses the lack of Jordanian legislative systems aiming to develop economic instruments that incentivize the adoption of environmentally friendly international policies, compared to the abundance of legislations that only impose financial and penal fines for violators of the environmental law, which were not effective in reducing environmental pollution. On the contrary, the cost of repairing damage is exorbitant and escalating, according to international reports.
