The Trojans Project: Therapeutic Drama from Syria to Scotland

This chapter describes the genesis and delivery of The Trojans play and workshops which ran in Glasgow from 2018-19. The project used therapeutic drama techniques to work with individuals and families who fled the war in Syria. Through regular workshops the participants developed their stories into a bilingual Arabic-English script that was placed within the frame of Euripedes’ classic play, The Trojan Women. The resulting play was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and other venues in central Scotland. Here the producers and refugee participants discuss their experiences of the project and how it contributed to their experience of refuge.
