Pars Plana Vitrectomy: The Basics
摘要
This chapter outlines the fundamental concepts of pars plana vitrectomy surgery. This includes operating room setup, vitrectomy machine parameters and fluid dynamics for efficient yet safe vitreous removal as well as visualization techniques. The chapter also discusses the essential components of vitrectomy surgery from placing trocars, maintaining a clear centralized view to induction of posterior hyaloid separation, crossing of instruments in phakic eyes, and searching the retinal periphery for retinal tears. The authors further scrutinize additional techniques, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of practices such as vitreous base shaving and performing vitrectomy under air.
