Operational Decision Support Tools for System Dynamic Response Awareness in Real-Time and Near-Real-Time Power System Operations

The energy transition is driving major changes on energy resources, networks, and demand, which need to be managed in real-time operations. Higher volatility, network congestion, reduced system strength, reduced inertia, and new oscillatory phenomena are some of the new challenges that operators are facing in the new paradigm. Higher volumes of information (that might be contradicting) and shorter decision times are difficult to reconcile. As such, there is and will be an increased need to improve the operational monitoring and decision support capability for real-time control center operators to help identify critical situations ahead of time and implement the most adequate preventative actions in a timely manner.
