This paper presents the design and evaluation process of augmented reality (AR) app for Malaysian folktales named Sumpahan Ikan Tapah. The evaluation involved two phases. The first phase involved the evaluation with two multimedia and creative technology experts, and the app has been redesigned based on the feedback received from the experts. The second evaluation phase involved a sample size of 30 participants. The sampling technique that has been used in this research is convenience sampling. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this app, the participants need to play the app and evaluate it by using a set of questionnaires. Based on the evaluation, it can be found that this AR app is useful as a tool to promote and preserve Malaysian local folktales, and it also has been found that Sumpahan Ikan Tapah AR Book can attract more users to learn about the folktales and enhance the user experience in learning the folktales. As a conclusion, this research would recommend that a long duration should be considered during the evaluation, and more participants of various ages should be involved, to gain more precise results.
