Grid and Lattice Radiation

Grid-RT is based on an old, 2D radiation technique often referred to as or mini-beam-RT. The concept is based on providing a very high dose of radiation concentrated in small regions. Lattice RT (LRT), a new form of grid-RT, is based on 3D configuration of grid-RT with an array of high-dose regions generated by converging IMRT or volumetric modulated arc RT. This enables creation of vertices located inside the tumor while maintaining a conventional dose at the tumor edge, thus not affecting the tolerance dose of the OARs, and works in a similar manner as grid-RT with a 3D configuration. This chapter reviews the concepts of grid-RT and LRT and their clinical applications.
