The important medial structures are the great saphenous vein, saphenous nerve, medial patellar retinaculum, medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL), medial patellofemoral complex; tibial collateral ligament (superficial medial collateral ligament), mid-third medial capsule (deep medial collateral ligament), posteromedial capsule (posterior oblique ligament), oblique popliteal ligament, pes anserinus (sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus tendons), semimembranosus tendon, and medial head of gastrocnemius muscle.
