It is important to make anterior knee arthroscopy portals high above the joint line. The best view of the top of the tibia and the menisci is from above. If the portal is low, the instrument will have to pass through the infrapatellar fat pad. For posterior portals, it is essential to know the location of underlying neurovascular structures.
