IoMT Applications Perspectives: From Opportunities and Security Challenges to Cyber-Risk Management

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is gaining popularity since it promotes the development of several smart and innovative applications. Healthcare among other domains is transforming in depth toward modern and smart e-health services. The Internet of medical things (IoMT) holds a great promise for healthcare givers and patients due to cost savings and clinical benefits. However, as IoMT devices grow more widespread, security, and cyber-security concerns are growing. While IoMT applications come with additional and recent types of security risks, existing risk management mechanisms and frameworks are not quite suitable to handle the issue. The purpose of this paper is to go through IoMT offered opportunities, associated issues, and the role of cyber-risk management in the deployment of reliable solutions. It presents a deep study of security issues and highlights factors of risk assessment and analysis for IoMT systems. Furthermore, it discusses the effectiveness of risk management approaches to address the issue and presents a comprehensive model of risk management for IoMT applications. The proposed model is based on a fine-grained and dynamic approach for risk assessment and management in different areas of focus.
