Tuning Surface Properties of Detonation and Milled Nanodiamonds by Gas Phase Modifications

Milled and detonation nanodiamonds behave very different material characteristics in terms of crystalline quality, size and shape distributions and chemical impurities. This explains their specific properties and targeted applications. These differences are in details discussed in the present chapter. The surface chemistry is a key parameter that governs the main properties for both natures of nanodiamondsNanodiamonds. Surface modifications achieved by various gas phase treatments are also reviewed.
