Compendium of Size and Shape Statics of Sand
摘要
Size and shape parameters of thirty sands were obtained using Dynamic Image Analysis (DIA) and presented in this chapter. The information serves to demonstrate the application of DIA for characterizingCharacterisation a variety of soils. In addition, these parameters can be used as input for numerical simulations involving the use of the Discrete Element Method (DEM). The materials presented comprise a variety of naturalNatural and mechanicallyMechanical sortedSorted sands. The selected particle grain size D rangedRange from approximately 50 to 2600 μm, while D10 and D rangedRange from 17–1828 to 98–3651 μm, respectively. Both siliceousSiliceous and calcareousCalcareous sands are included as well as particles possessing various degreesDegree of roundnessRoundness. Images of each sand are presented along with various size and shape descriptors. The particle size distributionsParticle size distribution (PSD) are non-gaussian and are thus fit with Johnson’s parameters. The fitting parameters for each sand are also given. The chapter demonstrates that DIA is suitable for characterizingCharacterisation a wideWide rangeRange of soils. In addition, it is believed that the provided information can be employed for a variety of numerical modellingModelling applications.
