Analysing Governance Arrangements: Freedom of Speech & Press and Elections

  • Dawn De Coteau

摘要

This case study chapter develops on the previous chapter’s analytical review of regional good governance and anti-corruption measures by focusing closely on five eastern Caribbean countries—Antigua & Barbuda, St Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, St Vincent & the Grenadines and Grenada. These territories’ performance in the Voice and Accountability dimension (Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press and Free and Fair Elections) of the World Governance Indicators is analysed using a variety of methodologies, to determine to what extent case study countries are perceived as adhering to international democratic standards, while echoing previous concerns about the validity of universal assessment in the Caribbean context.
