Cultural Heritage: A Critical Element of the Right to Education and the Right to Identity of Children in Armed Conflict
摘要
The chapter examines how children’s rights to education and the right to their own identity depend critically on their ability to enjoy cultural heritage. Indeed, the rights of children to self-identify and education go hand in hand. In actuality, one’s access to education encourages increased social participation in the particular cultural and social group to which one belongs as well as the development and improvement of one’s self-awareness. This relationship emphasises how crucial it is to protect cultural heritage in all circumstances, particularly in times of war when it is more likely to be destroyed.
