How to Avoid Complications in Le Fort 1 Osteotomy

Le Fort 1 osteotomy is one of the most commonly used osteotomies in craniofacial surgery. It can be used to change horizontal and vertical deformity in the midface. In addition, Le Fort 1 osteotomy can be used for correcting asymmetry, occlusal plane abnormalities, and obstructive sleep apnea cases. Avoiding complications during osteotomy is critical to the successful management of such deformities. The purpose of this chapter is to review pearls and pitfalls on how to avoid complications in Le Fort 1 osteotomy.
