Facial Laser Skin Resurfacing in Facial Cosmetic Surgery

In the past several decades, technological advances have become an essential part of cosmetic treatments in aesthetic and rejuvenative medicine. Photorejuvenation is defined as the treatment of photoaged skin utilizing laser or light-based technologies. While laser procedures can be done independently, the combination of laser procedures in conjunction with nonsurgical or surgical treatments synergistically enhances comprehensive facial rejuvenation outcomes. This chapter will limit our discussion to facial skin resurfacing treatments, the biology of skin aging, the scientific basis of phototherapy, patient evaluation, treatment, and management of complications.
