Nanosensors in Agriculture: Applications, Prospects, and Challenges

摘要

Nanotechnology is regarded as the most significant technical innovation in recent years, and its prospective applications have led to its use in all sectors. Agricultural technological advancements are critical to combating global concerns such as population growth, climate change, and limited food availability. One of the recommended ways for sustainable agricultural intensification is the application of nanotechnology approaches. New strategies are necessary to solve these problems and increase agriculture’s productivity, sustainability, and resilience. Nanosensors are minimal research tools. These sensors have substantially lower detection thresholds than their digital analogs, are portable, and are more affordable. Nanosensors are gaining popularity due to the necessity to detect and quantify chemical and physical characteristics in nanoscale biological and industrial systems that are difficult to access. The present chapter will discuss the idea of nanosensors, their characteristics, types, and their different applications in the agriculture field. The chapter will also highlight the advantages and limitations of nanosensor applications in agriculture, the prospects, and the challenges facing nanosensor applications in agriculture. The conclusions obtained from the chapter will define how vital the nanosensor applications are for intelligent agriculture practices.
