Removal of Inorganic Pollutants Using Optical Nanosensors

Heavy metals are extensively monitored and eliminated from the environment due to their harmful impact on human health and other living creatures. The regulation of heavy metals is a top-priority environmental task due to their toxicity and bioaccumulative nature. To address this severe impact, many researchers have created an innovative mesoscopic capture technique for the highly selective monitoring of heavy metals from water sources. Various chemical captors and nanosensors have been developed to differentiate between capturing target species. Particularly in underdeveloped nations, there is a demand for optical nano-sized sensors/adsorbents that can be employed for determination and removal without using expensive analysis equipment. A metal ion-optical capture system has been developed with several features, including the ability to color-track removal or sensing process, high-speed responsiveness, cheap cost, and eco-friendliness. This chapter seeks to provide information on a unique class of nano-sized sensors based on mesoporous adsorbents to monitor, detect, and adsorb heavy metals using an optical method.
