摘要

Light plays a crucial role in our daily lives, and there is a growing need to comprehend and apply it to various practical applications. As our understanding of light waves and their applications continues to evolve, it has become increasingly clear that we must use various light sensors to monitor this delicate energy. Optical sensors, which are essential components of radiometers, have various shapes and are utilized in recent disciplines. This chapter provides a definition of optical sensors and explains how they detect electromagnetic power and intensity, as well as how radiometers differentiate them. This chapter also covers fundamental concepts and terminology related to radiometric science, particularly concerning the measurement of the power or irradiance of a source. Additionally, the author will illustrate the significance of optical sensors by presenting recent applications in other fields. Finally, the author will discuss the importance of the calibration procedure and traceability through an unbroken chain to the SI unit.
