This chapter focuses on the theories of European integration. The phenomenon of European integration stands as a unique, unprecedented event. As it has evolved, numerous political theories of regional integration have emerged to interpret its various aspects. Among these theories, federalism, functionalism, neo-functionalism and intergovernmental cooperation are particularly prominent. A thorough understanding of these different theoretical approaches provides an essential foundation for grasping their individual roles and interpretations within the intricate process of European integration.
