Research Design

The concept of competency has only recently started to gain traction in computing education. Competency modeling for computer science study programs as a whole and introductory programming education as a core tier are still considered research desiderata. This chapter summarizes the research desiderata and the lack of an empirically grounded competency model for basic programming in higher education institutions. Moreover, this chapter summarizes the goals of this research along with the research questions. The introduction of the mixed-methods study design comprising a document analysis and guided expert interviews concludes this chapter.
