Summarizing and Reviewing the Components of Programming Competency

The goal of this chapter is to summarize and review the programming competencies identified via the applied research methodology. Hence, the cognitive competencies represented in the category system of the curricula data, and those built within the summarizing content analysis of the guided expert interviews are aggregated and consolidated in case of redundancies. The same process was conducted for the other components of programming competency. The resulting syntheses of programming competencies serve as an answer to the overall research question of this study and particularly answer questions 1.a and 1.b. Based on the classification of programming competencies within the dimensions of the Anderson Krathwohl Taxonomy, the AKT is reviewed and adapted to the context of introductory programming education. Both the review and adaptation of the AKT answer research question 1.c.
