Pattern, Identifying: Latent Figure Protocol

There are deep resonances between early Modern and contemporary biotechnologies. This chapter describes the development of fingerprint identification in the late 1800s as a method of social control and subsequently its seeming reincarnation in the late 1900s as DNA fingerprinting. In Latent Figure Protocol (LFP), I reverse-engineer DNA fingerprint techniques to highlight how the DNA image is produced rather than imprinted, an important distinction in claims of authority. LFP responded to an Orwellian zeitgeist of the Patriot Act in early 2000s.
