The Role of the Clinical Parasitology Laboratory in Delusional Infestations

The clinical parasitology laboratory plays an essential role in the evaluation of patients with suspected delusional infestation (DI). This chapter provides guidance for how the clinical team can partner with the laboratory to direct testing and reporting and discusses parasitic infections that may mimic delusional infestation. Examples of the laboratory evaluation in cases of DI, pseudoparasitism, and true parasitism mimicking DI are also provided.
