Semiosis and the Sign
摘要
Semiosis—or the process of meaning-making—may in the first place be defined and understood according to its microscopic aspects. This entails that semiosis may be considered in terms of the notion of the sign and its so-called relational dynamics. The goal of this chapter is to survey the notion of semiosis by focusing on the sign and its (sub-sub-etc.-) processual levels, much like how physical or biological studies may describe the respective notions of the atom or the cell. On the basis of this overview, discussion will shift to how semiosis may be approached scientifically, and a model of semiosis in its microcosmic aspects will be constructed.
