Quantification and Utopia: New Forms of Expert Knowledge Production in Global Education Governance

This concluding chapter brings together the five different strands of the empirical and theoretical analysis developed in previous chapters. It argues for a novel perspective of the role of quantification in the production of education utopias. The chapter discusses the ways that metrological realism has constructed a well-supported epistemic infrastructure, built on relationships and practices that go beyond the mere objectivity and reliability of numerical evidence; rather, quantification has led to ideational and institutional interdependencies that have produced an intricate, fragmented and opaque knowledge and governance web.
