Introduction and General Concepts of Machine Learning and Data Science

As a first step toward understanding how and why different machine learning algorithms work, we will begin this chapter with a discussion and definition of what machine learning is. This is followed by an overview with a bird’s eye perspective, on different commonly used machine learning methods and their application ranges with hardly any equation. Subsequently, a number of basic techniques, important concepts, accompanying tools, and terminologies that are specific to machine learning are introduced providing the foundation for all subsequent chapters.
