Conclusions and Recommendations

As soon as one begins the process of trying to join the clergy, one is presented with the way in which the majority White clergy understand priesthood (Edwards, 2012, 2014, 2016; Latham, 2012; Keith, 2017). Findings from this study bring to the fore issues of race and racism in the way in which the CofE is structured as an institution. This has influenced the sense of belonging of the Black clergy who participated in this study (Solorzano & Yosso, 2001; Leonardo, 2013; Park & Brown, 2015; Lewis et al., 2019).
