“Delivery Expected as Soon as Possible”—Standard Military Pattern Trucks

The “standard military pattern” (SMP) truck project was the last in a series of attempts to replace the Canadian Army’s rusted out transport trucks. After several failed sole-source attempts, the SMP was launched in June 2006. Specification alterations and corresponding cost increases in 2008–2009 contributed to a literal last minute reset in 2012. A contract award came in 2015 with deliveries in 2018—eight years beyond the original planned date and eighteen years after the CAF first identified the project as a sought-after capability.
