Methodologies

The goal of this chapter is to scrutinize previous work to find out if and why we still have a heating problem, and what the nature of the remaining challenges might be. By necessity some discussion of motivations, rewards and career-building cannot be avoided, science does not operate in a vacuum. It is done by scientists, working within an imperfect system of peer review, funding, politics, social dynamics and specific career choices. We ask readers merely to consider these more subjective arguments that we offer, and to then make their own decisions.
