The Muslim Brotherhood and Other Organisations in the Netherlands

  • Carel Brendel

摘要

Immigrant students and workers from the Netherlands were among the pioneers that, in the 1980s, started to coordinate with like-minded activists in France, Germany, Spain and Britain. Their efforts resulted, in 1989, in the creation of the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe, the umbrella organisation of the European Muslim Brotherhood (MB), which renamed itself, in 2020, Council of European Muslims. The Dutch MB branch ceased functioning in 2013, due to internal struggles. Yet, in the three biggest cities of the Netherlands, there are mosques that have their origin in still-existing MB-related organisations. This chapter takes a closer look at the internal struggles.
