How Qatar Became an Actor in the Spread of Political Islam in Europe

Essential on the international scene, as the crisis in Afghanistan showed in 2021, the tiny emirate of Qatar, populated by barely 2,800,000 inhabitants, including only 250,000 indigenous people, has become known through its diplomatic mediations in many crises—in Lebanon, Chad, Darfur, etc. But in recent years, Doha has not hesitated to invest in the field of religion in Europe, by providing financial support to Islamic associations close to the Muslim Brotherhood, followers, like Doha, of a political Islam, which served as a lever in Qatar to pull during the Arab Spring.
