Application of Intraoperative Neuromonitoring

This chapter begins with basic remarks on the interpretation of intraoperative potential findings. This is followed by a presentation of the main application fields of monitoring in different surgical disciplines. After a short description of specific diseases, appropriate options for monitoring their surgical treatment are shown, supplemented by examples of particular cases. In order to avoid repetition, detailed description of different techniques and the stimulation and recording parameters are deferred to the respective Chap. 5 “Modalities and Methods of Intraoperative Neuromonitoring.” Methodical aspects given here are limited to a few individual applications in which this appears necessary for understanding. Furthermore, some representative literature references are added to the various application areas.
