Technical Basics

This chapter provides an overview of the measurement and stimulation techniques used in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) along with the most important physical parameters. A basic understanding of these matters is of great benefit due to technical challenges that may occur during the application of the IONM. The knowledge of possible disturbances, interferences, and artifacts can be helpful in solving problems and contributes to a smooth workflow.
