Physical Aspects of Eating Disorders
摘要
The focus of this chapter is on the physical manifestations and signs of eating disorders. Physical signs in the identification of individuals with eating disorders, although often lacking sufficient sensitivity and specificity, can assist in the diagnosis. The physical examination offers important clues to aid in diagnostic assessment and identification of short- and long-term medical complications of an eating disorder. Thorough history and physical exam are therefore important and must not be overlooked or given minimal attention. This chapter highlights the evidence that supports the importance of physical signs commonly observed in patients with eating disorders. In addition, the pathophysiology behind these physical signs is reviewed. This goal of this chapter is to help clinicians identify physical signs commonly seen in individuals with eating disorders, so individuals can be recognized promptly, and treatment can begin as early as possible.
