IoT-Based eHealth Solutions for Aging with Special Emphasis on Aging-Related Inflammatory Diseases: Prospects and Challenges

The life expectancy of the human race is increasing over the decades with the advancement in the new technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) to facilitate lifestyle and healthcare assistance. IoT-based smart healthcare devices bring innovative changes for various age related-conditions of elderly persons. During the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, IoT significantly plays a vital role in assisting the elderly person to monitor their behaviour and movement using smart wearable with multiple sensors installed across their homes and also for continuous monitoring their health conditions to provide emergency services. Herein we address the current advancement of IoT-based health solutions for elderly people having aging-related inflammatory conditions. Current scenarios within the research field of IoT have shown a potential to play a significant role in enabling older people with their health issues related to aging to build an environment and caregiving but there are several challenges and limitations associated with the development of technology to support the aged ones.
