Architecture and Life

  • Timothy Ireland

摘要

The last chapter draws a conclusion, arguing how the position on space presented in the fifth chapter, and a processual design approach (that considers space a fundamental criteria of health), can lead to a form, or architecture, which supports and enhances well-being. Architecture is deemed to be a physiological and social extension, or put another way, buildings are deemed agents that might serve for the betterment of individuals and collectives. This view is extended in this final chapter towards the idea that architecture, or buildings, are tools. As tools they ought to serve as devices for human, and non-human, eudaimonia. Space is central to this, because space is a fundamental aspect of life. Hence, architecture is deemed to be an agential device with the capacity to enhance health and well-being.
