The annual global production of apparel and textile fibers exceeds 110 million metric tons, resulting in a significant generation of textile waste. The textile manufacturing processes necessitate substantial quantities of water. Additionally, it is important to note that this phenomenon can potentially result in detrimental impacts on both the overall ecosystem and the well-being of human populations. Based on scientific research, it has been determined that the leather industry is responsible for the production of substantial quantities of industrial sewage. The waste generated during the different stages of leather production is derived from various technological processes. It is important to note that approximately 1 metric ton of raw hide results in a total waste output of approximately 700 kg. Furthermore, it is important to note that tannery waste is known to contain chromium compounds, which are widely used as tanning agents in the leather industry. This presents an additional peril to the ecosystem. Based on the composition and levels of chemicals present in the wastewater, if left untreated, these substances have the potential to contaminate water sources. Furthermore, it is important to note that the textile and leather industries serve as significant contributors to the generation of hazardous waste. Not all of the chemical compounds that are introduced into the flotation process ultimately find their way into the end product, but rather are discharged along with the utilized process water. Hence, environmental protection necessitates effective sludge management.
