The rising demand for clean water around the world has led to an increase in the creation of sludge. Since the removal of sludge from various industrial activities is acknowledged as an ecological burden on society, sludge management has grown to be a major concern. The efficient management of sludge is a complicated problem since developing countries frequently have limited resources, poor infrastructure, and low technological capabilities. Thus, handling the sludge left over after wastewater treatment is a serious problem for the environment and human health, especially in poor countries. However, in many developing countries, many sludge management studies have been evaluated to identify the most up-to-date scientific and technological knowledge encompassing issues of sludge generation, evaluation, management, reuse of construction and agricultural materials, and final disposal. This is necessary to effectively manage sludge adequately. In this regard, this chapter elucidates the diverse sludge management techniques used in various developing countries, emphasizing economical and environmentally friendly options. The main objective is to evaluate the state of the art, pinpoint issues, and suggest novel strategies to tackle the distinct socio-economic and infrastructure limitations encountered by developing countries.
