Tooth Flank Modification of Line Contact Spiral Bevel Gears

摘要

This study investigated tooth flank modification of a line contact spiral bevel gear to solve the issues of meshing impact and edge contact during the meshing process. To this end, the geometric interference and impact caused by errors and load deformations during the alternating meshing process of multiple tooth flank pairs were studied. First, the condition for controlling the transmission error of the line contact spiral bevel gear pair without errors as a constant value was derived. Then, considering the influence of load deformations and errors, the modification areas and amounts of the modified tooth flank were determined, and a modification method for the line contact spiral bevel gear was proposed. The contact analysis results of the example pairs before and after modification showed that the proposed modification method could effectively avoid the meshing impact and edge contact of the line contact tooth flank pair, while reducing the maximum contact stress.
